We're not going to stress over the fact that our flight home was canceled.  Or that we're stuck here in Iceland for another day or two.  We're going to relax (again!) at one of the Top 25 Wonders of the World -the Blue Lagoon.

Unfortunately, there was a mix-up in our booking and we had to switch our earlier ticketed time (11am) to evening (6pm). This kinda ruined the whole purpose of visiting the "Blue" Lagoon because we could barely see anything in the darkness when we arrived.

The geothermal water originates 2,000 meters below the surface, where freshwater and seawater combine at extreme temperatures. It is then harnessed via drilling holes at a nearby geothermal power plant, Svartsengi, to create electricity and hot water for nearby communities. On its way to the surface, the water picks up silica and minerals, before emerging at a soothing 38°C (100°F). Perfect for a relaxing and re-energizing bath. Why is it blue? The blue color comes from the silica and the way it reflects sunlight. However, and this might come as a surprise to you, the water is actually white. If you pour it into a transparent cup, it will always have a milky white color. The sun simply makes it look blue (like the caption below).

There was no sun at this hour....and the only thing Jenesa and I could see while bathing in the Lagoon were each other! We each applied the white silica mud mask when we first arrived. This mud is the Blue Lagoon's signature element.  It pretty much dried immediately after applying it all over our face.  The special mud deep-cleanses and exfoliates...while also strengthening the skin barrier and preventing premature skin aging.  Got all that? Whatever the "benefits" of this mud were....my face was tingling for the next 4 hours!!!
